“ Reicher is across 620 from the Target and Home Depot near the intersection to 71. Orange traffic cones will be placed at the entrance of the property. Directions and a map will be furnished by the City of Austin upon registration ”
Hello Group!
This site is named for the first Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Austin. When this property became part of the BCP, access was closed in order to protect sensitive and endangered species. I will be one of three guides who will ensure you are properly introduced to its history and the purposes of the BCP. The City of Austin also protects the beautiful chapel on its grounds and former home of Bishop Reicher.
You will see a view of Lake Austin from a rare vantage point. Bring your cameras to remember this event! BCP properties are usually accessed only with trained guides and this is the last hike for this area until next fall. Access to the chapel and other buildings is normally granted for this event.
BE AWARE THAT THIS IS A 2 ½ hour hike and starts at 8:30am! Please bring appropriate amounts of water. The path will include a steep asphalt road and a winding, wooded trail. There is about a 400 ft change in elevation. Due to the terrain and pace, this hike is intended for audiences 12 and up. All youth must be under parental supervision at all times and participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants should wear sturdy, closed-toe hiking/walking shoes in order to participate in the hike. The guides are instructed to decline leading anyone who does not wear appropriate footwear.
Reicher Ranch is a part of the Bacones Canyonlands Preserve system and does not allow pets on the grounds. This event is not stroller friendly. Bathroom facilities will be available.
The site is very near the new Galleria Mall at 71 and 620. I stress that attendance availability is determined by the city, so the event might fill without notice. You do not have to RSVP to decline.
Please register with the City at this link: http://www.ci.austin....
or call 263-6437.
This is the 5/17 8:30 am event. Almost half of the 20 slots are already filled through the City of Austin and they will not increase the size of the group.
