This Meetup is a CONCURRENT event. Two docents have agreed to lead our group into Bright Leaf Preserve and this is Group 2. This will hopefully address the requests to join the hike and yet not increase the size.
I ask you to please thank Nancy Wooley for her efforts before or after the event.

How can you NOT know about a park that is over 200 acres near MOPAC and 2222? Well, let's fix that!

Bright Leaf is smaller than Wild Basin but has more trails. Join this nature walk and feel the friendly company of a docent who will offer insights into the preserve's secrets and history. Come out and enjoy this jewel of the Hill Country right here in Austin. A total of over 4 miles of trails go through natural canyon areas and over Dry Creek. The walk will last a little over 2 hours, so please bring enough water. Insect spray, a hat & sunblock are also good ideas.

Bright Leaf is a natural area managed by Friends of Bright Leaf and held by the Austin Community Foundation. It is available for guided hikes only. This hike is specially arranged for our walking group.

Philanthropist Georgia Lucas purchased the land in 34 separate real estate transactions and in her endowment she stipulated the land be preserved in a wild state. No dogs, bikes, fishing or camping are allowed.

Directions: Bright Leaf is literally hidden. It's on 2222 between Mopac and Hwy. 360. It's actually between Mt Bonnel Road and Mesa. Look for Creek Mountain Road and turn into it. After you enter Creek Mountain, the road will curve to the right. The parking lot is on the left.

The trail is unimproved and is not stroller friendly. Because this walk is 3 to 4 miles, young children may not endure happily. I'm afraid this is NOT dog friendly. There may be a few inclines and descents. Please send me a note if you need more details.

Pictures of last year's walk into Brightleaf are on our site, but please take your camera and add to the memories of this event! I know you will love this site and I look forward to reading your comments later.
