Photo above is the big water fountain in Sausalito. The Bay Model, bigger than 2 football fields, is an exact model of the San Francisco Bay's currents. Though it was built for scientific study it is now open, for educational purposes, FREE to the public. If you are going with us on the ferry try and be at the Golden Gate Ferry Terminal directly behind the SF Ferry Building Clock Tower at 10:15 AM to give a margin of error so you don't miss the ferry when it leaves at 10:40 AM. It is not hard to find me because I am a tall man wearing a straw colored hat plus I plan to bring at least 1 meetup sign. After you buy a ticket and enter the terminal you can find our group at the right (North end). If you don't find us in the terminal you can find us in the ferry at the top deck. The adult fare is $7.10 one way. For youth (6-18), seniors (65+)/disabled with Medicare or approved ID is $3.55. Children under 6 are FREE. Also, people can go to Sausalito by bus.

You may also join our group in Sausalito. Our ferry is expected to arrive at Sausalito at 11:10 AM, near El Portal Street, but there is no terminal building. We will then walk to the nearby big water fountain at El Portal and Bridgeway, 11:15 AM, so that other attendees can find us. The last time we did this walk we walked North to 2 good inexpensive cafes on Caledonia Street, away from the tourist area, arriving for an early lunch at 11:25 AM to avoid crowds. One is an Indian cafe called Sartaj India Cafe, 43 Caledonia Street, and the other is an Italian cafe 2 doors down called Caffe diVino. However, the Italian cafe was way too slow and we lost precious time we needed to complete the walk. After lunch we walked through Dunphy Park and on to the Bay Model. This time we will plan for good weather and bring sack lunches with us to eat at Dunphy Park. If the weather turns bad we will be eating at the Indian cafe. We will tour the Bay Model until about 1:55 PM. People who wish to catch the 2:10 PM ferry back to SF will have to walk back by themselves as the group won't have time to get back there by then. Our group's scheduled return ferry will leave at 3:50 PM. We will then explore the South side of Sausalito including what was Sally Stanford's restaurant, Valhalla, which is now a Gaylord's Indian restaurant. It is also a location in the Orson Welles movie "The Lady from Shanghai." Sally Stanford was San Francisco's most famous madam who also later became the elected Mayor of Sausalito.

I am turning off the "Maybe" option to find out how many are coming.

It was great fun. The whole group was terrific. This was a day full of fun conversation, strolling through Sausailto and being outside! Howard did a great job!

This was a great walk last time, but the Bay Model had sprung a leak, so am looking forward to seeing it working this time.

The weather experts had it wrong. Instead of partly cloudy and windy. We had no clouds and little winds during the picnic portion. It was a great walk but the bad forecast probably kept our attendance down to 18 out of 73 "Yes" RSVPs.
    •  Thanks Howard for organizing. The weather was - unlike forecast - great, company was pleasant, and the Bay Model was fascinating.
    •  Howard's walks are always enjoyable and interesting. He is prepared for everything.
    •  The Bay Model is terrific, as the bay is a most interesting place. I ended up sitting outside after about 30 minutes though, after a trip to the ladies room which took me outside, the sun was calling me to sit outside and relax. So I waited out there for the rest of the group. This was my first walk, and I really did want to walk more than be inside. But Sausalito and all is always terrific. For me I would prefer not to go to museums and stuff when I want to go for a walk, I just wanted to be outside...but the day was great.
    •  Another great walk!! Thanks Howard :-) I look forward to more fun walks with this group.
