Wednesday Walk at Wilde Lake
Wilde Lake
Columbia, MD 21044
Meeting Description
Who
- Come and walk around the lake with the "waterfall" visible from Little Patuxent Parkway. Join me and work up to the Centennial Walk on Tuesday and Thursday. Or take a break from the longer walks with a couple of loops around the lake.
Why
- This is a Swan Refuge, and the water fowl have already returned, a great place to see them. And there is a Heron that loves photo ops. Also, the community has an interesting mix of architecture and style. Check out some of the photos I took.
Organized by
-
"I should have my nordic walking poles with tips. Check out the RSVP list for members with pictures to identify the group. Find us in front of the long white barn-like building near the tables."

Details
Spring is here! Peaceful walk with gentle hills and one larger incline down and a gentle incline up as we move around the waterfall.
This walk, once around, is approximately 1.5 miles per pedometer measurement which takes approximately 30 minutes at a moderate pace. We do 2 laps, so if you can't meet us at 6:45, we should be around again at 7:15!
Time states 6:30 but really we walk between 6:40-6:45, please plan accordingly.
WHERE TO MEET: Hyla Brook Drive
Directions from Little Patuxent Parkway headed from I-95 or US 29 interchanges towards the Mall in Columbia:
Follow Little Patuxent Parkway and turn right onto West Running Brook.
Turn left onto Hyla Brook Road (first left).
Parking is on the left side of the road, very near the lake itself- it is near the clubhouse as well.
Directions from Little Patuxent Parkway, headed from Broken Land Parkway intersection towards the Mall in Columbia:
Follow Little Patuxent Parkway and turn left onto West Running Brook.
Turn left onto Hyla Brook Road (first left).
Parking is on the left side of the road, very near the lake itself- it is near the clubhouse as well.
The community seems to have an entrance along Governor Warfield Parkway, however, the road seems to end in the condominium cul de sacs, and not by the main parking area.
Map view- direction is from Columbia Mall /Governor Warfield Parkway
Dogs are welcome to the park, however keep him or her on a leash and expect to pick up what he/she leaves behind.
We will walk counter clockwise, as usual. Unless you are familiar with this lake, I suggest if you are running late and don't see us, please text / call me and I'll let you know where we are because a portion of the trail is in the residential neighborhood and we might not be visible. However, the trail is easy to find, so you should be able to walk counter clockwise and meet up with us.

Interesting facts:
Village Center: The Wilde Lake Village Green was the first village center in Columbia.
Plaza: In the center of the 2-acre plaza stands a sculpture which is a three figure representation of family love. It was designed by Pierre duFayet. A children's play area is nearby.
