Changes: Invitation extended to include Hikers! Also, second carpool planning to meet in Placitas.

Yeah! The Rains! The fire danger has lifted and the Mountain has re-openned! So, a simultaneous and additional meeting site option is now open! Whoever is feeling inclined to carpool up the primitive and unimproved Hwy 165 back road to the ski hill is invited to meet up with me in Placitas at the Mini Mart on Hwy 165 at 9am Sunday July 27. I drive a 1994 Blue Toyota P/U. We will meet Tom's caravan at the ski hill.

Tom Mizner will be meeting bikers and hikers at Smith's

Hikers are welcomed!!
Yes, some of Tom's friends are planning to carpool along and take the chair lift up with us and then hike down.

Let's take the scenic summer chairlift up the peak for a very fun downhill bike run! The thought of riding down a ski hill on a bike used to intimidate me until a 67 year-young friend said she took this ride last year and just loved it! OK. I think I'll love it too! If you think you might love it, let's go!

Alan at Sandia Peak suggests that our group take the 7.2 mile intermediate trail which includes a small amount of technical riding and will likely be about 1.5 hours to travel. If that's not enough riding for one day, you can pay the difference of $8 to upgrade your one-way lift ticket to an all-day pass. We can decide as a group or groups when we meet as to whether or not we are open to making a full day of it.

Bring drinking water and something to eat if you like. I'm told there is food available on the mountain.

One-way lift for Hikers $7
One-way lift with your bike $10
All-day lift with your bike $18
All-day bike rental package is $48
Sandia Peak offers a full service bike shop and a fleet of 40 adult-sized rental bikes.

I have an extra bike to loan if needed. Helmet rental at the Peak is $8

Helmets are manditory!!
Gloves are strongly suggested.

This walk sounds WONDERFUL! I am recovering from an illness, so I am afraid it will be a bit much for me just now. Looking forward to future walks/rides. -Dianne

Who attended?

    •  We missed the Walkers. Had just one person show up to hike down the ski hill. Eight of the bikers went to Plan B because the Ski Hill was muddy after the extensive rains. One biker braved the mud on the Ski Hill. We will be planning another Hike or Bike Downhill on Sandia Peak within the next few weeks. Hope to get a good showing of hikers!
